Leominster Early Childhood STEM PD

Early Childhood educators from across the city participated in a STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) themed professional development sponsored by the Leominster Public Schools (Title I, Project Apples, and Early Childhood).  The training is part of the district’s initiative to strengthen partnerships with Early Childhood providers as well as promote the importance of implementing STEM activities at an early age.   Representatives from eight of the city’s largest private centers, Head Start, and the Leominster Public Schools participated.  Each participant received a STEM kit that will allow them to bring STEM activities into their classrooms.

Northwest Announcements
Northwest School at Starbase Academy in Lexington
Leominster has been lucky to be able to participate in the STARBASE ACADEMY at MIT for the past three years. STARBASE offers 5th grade students an opportunity to participate in a variety of learning experiences designed to increase interest in and knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The program also promotes positive self-esteem, helps students to focus on setting and achieving personal goals, and raises student confidence in problem solving. Northwest fifth graders from Mrs. Cormier’s class were the lucky ones chosen to attend 5 days at the STARBASE ACADEMY. They came back to Northwest School each time enthusiastic and eager to share what they learned each day. They shared whose car was able to go the fastest, how they got to use the 3D printer to see things created, and they got to take home some of the materials with them. This opportunity provided our Northwest students from a variety of different backgrounds and perspectives an opportunity for educational success and a platform for future learning.
