Summer Reading
During the summer months, it is crucial that children continue to read daily to sustain their academic skills. Studies have indicated that students who read during the summer can actually improve their reading skills. It is important that students are encouraged to read and understand books that are suitable to their level of comprehension.

NOTE: There have been issues accessing summer reading from older unsupported browsers.   If you are having issues accessing the summer reading list and are running an older version of Internet Explorer CLICK HERE for directions for a workaround from Microsoft.  From any other browser, you may need to install or update to a newer version.

Northwest Announcements
Welcome Message
Welcome to all of the Northwest families! As we approach the opening of school Ms. Kostka and I are very excited to welcome our new friends as well as see familiar faces once again! We are looking forward to this upcoming year and continuing with the strong work at Northwest.  Much work has been completed this summer in preparation for the coming year.  Teachers have been busy working on fully integrating Common Core standards in reading and math and planning for instruction. Our custodial staff has worked hard to prepare the building for our students.  For those families that are new to Northwest, I am sure that you will soon realize that we have an extremely hardworking, caring and friendly staff!

Here are some important dates and information for the start of school:

  • The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 27th. (grade 1-5 students)
  • Kindergarten students will begin school on Tuesday, September 3rd. Kindergarten orientation will be held on Friday, August 29th at 9:00 (last names A-L) and 10:00 (last names M-Z)
  • Grade 1 students will be meeting in the cafeteria on the first day and parents are welcome to stay for a brief time. First grade teachers will come down to meet students and will walk students to class.
  • Grade 2 students will be directed to the library on the first day where they will be dismissed to the classrooms.
  • Grades 3-5 students will be directed to the gym on the first day where they will be dismissed to the classrooms.
  • For the safety of all of our students, grade 2-5 parents are not allowed to accompany their child to the classroom. There will be many staff members along the way to help students find their rooms.
  • School hours are from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Students can only be dropped off after 8:00 AM. If you need child care before 8:00 AM, the district offers a fee-for-service program called Creative Choices. They can be reached at 978-534-7700 ext. 313.
  • Finally, Northwest does not release a required supply list for students. Necessary supplies are provided by our school and our wonderful Parent/Teacher Organization (PTO)!
